LASU Senate Building destroyed by fire.

On Friday, December 9, a fire broke out at the Lagos State University (LASU) campus in Ojo, Lagos.

The fire, which was sparked by a power surge, affected seven workplaces.

Internal Audit Directorate, Bursar’s Office, Risk Insurance & Investment, Bursar Mini Registry & Reception, Payroll & Pension Unit, Budget & Budgetary Control, and Deputy Director Office were all impacted.

According to a preliminary report from the state emergency management agency (LASEMA), the fire started in the Directorate of Internal Audit (Property management unit) office on the 4th Floor of the building.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, stated that while no lives were lost, the Directorate office was severely damaged by the fire.

“The fire damage has expanded to parts of the ceiling claddings,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The Lagos Fire Service and Agency personnel quickly extinguished the fire.

“A post-disaster risk assessment is now underway in order to identify any possible dangers and subsequent incidents.”

LASEMA boss said after the post disaster risk was conducted, it was concluded that “there is no threat of any possible ignition to any of the office.”

“The members of staff were sensitized on safety and precautionary measures needed to avoid such incident,” he added.
