Senator Adekeke sworn in as sixth Osun governor, renames State

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been sworn in as Osun State’s sixth elected governor. On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was sworn in at the Osogbo City Stadium in Osogbo. Adeleke was sworn in as Governor of Osun by the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo, after taking the oaths of loyalty and office. Prince Kola Adegboyega Adewusi, the new Deputy Governor, was also sworn in by Justice Adepele-Ojo. Dignitaries in attendance were the PDP Presidential Candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, his wife, Titi, his running partner, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, governors of Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, and Bayelsa, and the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndidi Elumelu. Traditional rulers, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, also attended. Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has changed the state’s name from “State of Osun” to “Osun State,” as well as its nickname from “The State of the Virtues” to “The State of the Living Spring.” Adeleke also rescinded all appointments made by the previous governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, with effect from July 7, 2022. Governor Adeleke ordered the freezing of all government financial accounts. He also remarked that the Oyetola administration’s conduct since July 17th will be reviewed.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, has been accused of drug trafficking. The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has denied making a comment on the claims. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the INEC Chairman’s chief press secretary, informed our correspondent that the announcement was a hoax. Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education Committee, was quoted in the aforementioned statement as saying that the commission was in contact with US authorities to learn more about the allegation in order to assess whether the APC standard bearer may have violated any pertinent electoral law 2022 provisions (as amended). Oyekanmi stated that the commission would quickly release a thorough statement to refute the false statement.
