Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, slammed President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, over the newly redesigned naira notes on Wednesday. Sowore accused Buhari and Emefiele of taking advantage of Nigerians by redesigning the naira. In a tweet, the AAC presidential candidate called the president and the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria criminals. He emphasized that there was no major shift in the naira, and Nigerians appear to have been duped once more. Buhari revealed the revamped N200, N500, and N1000 notes at the start of the Federal Executive Council’s weekly meeting (FEC). The new Naira notes will become legal cash on December 15, while the old ones will no longer be legal tender on February 1, 2023. Nigeria will revamp some of its currency notes for the first time in 19 years. Sowore showed his dissatisfaction with the development by tweeting a picture. He stated: “@GodwinIEmefiele of @cenbank and @MBuhari just fooled Nigerians over the phony so-called Naira makeover.  Nothing was “redesigned,” just the colour was changed.  Crooks!  #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”
