Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, paid a visit to the Faith Tabernacle, the headquarters of the Living Faith Church in Sango Ota, Ogun state, on Thursday, December 8, when he joined congregants during the current Shiloh 2022 event. One of the highlights of Thursday’s event was church members breaking into loud cheers when Living Faith Church’s Vice President, Bishop David Abioye, revealed Obi’s arrival. Senate backs CBN on naira redesign

The Senate has approved the Central Bank of Nigeria’s proposed Naira redesign. The Senate resolved in plenary on Wednesday, November 16, to provide legislative backing for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) policy to redesign the naira. Senator Sani Uba, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, proposed the resolution. The lawmakers who supported the naira redesign felt the deadline of January 31st, 2023 to pay all cash in circulation into banks was too short. Aside from urging the CBN to conduct aggressive policy enlightenment, particularly in rural areas of the country, they also urged the CBN to put measures in place in the face of ubiquitous Financial Technology (FinTech) to ensure that the local populace can bank their cash easily and within the time frame specified. They said that this would ensure that Nigerians in rural regions followed the policy so that they did not lose their hard-earned money, as well as the security of the local population, who might be kidnapped and robbed of their cash by criminal elements such as bandits and insurgents.
